Billy Ray Cyrus Talks Candidly About Miley’s Behavior, Blames Show For Family Demise
Singer/actor Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus’ father, admits he is very worried about his daughter’s current behavior.
Billy, 49, said his daughter’s recent behavior includes having her 18th birthday party at a bar and smoking salvia through a bong. It also means that Miley’s “handlers” are not doing their job; something he is just realizing.
According to a recent interview with GQ magazine, he was always to blame for whenever Miley did something her “handlers” were unaware of or did not approve of. He said he shouldered the blame because he was her dad. He didn’t mind being nailed to the cross for his daughter.
Billy said he is terrified for his daughter, saying Miley is around a lot of folks putting her in significant danger. That was something, he said, he tried to shelter her from and is still trying to do.
Billy and his wife Tish Cyrus, who is Miley’s mother, are in the process of a divorce. Billy said he steered clear of the 18th birthday party because he didn’t want to take the blame for it being held in the Trousdale, a Los Angeles bar. Miley’s age makes it illegal for her to be in a bar until age 21, as is the legal drinking age in the United States.
He said they did call, asking him to come but he declined. The bar, Billy said, was for people ages 21 and older. He realized he was the scapegoat whenever bad press about his daughter came up. He said the handlers would say her dad allowed it so it must be okay.
When Miley was pictured with the legal salvia, Billy said, the handlers said to him that nothing she did was his business. That’s when he should have stepped in, he admits.
Miley gained national stardom from the hit Disney TV show “Hannah Montana” with her father who played her dad on the show. Billy said he wishes the show never occurred because of the tremendous impact it had for his family.
He blames the show for destroying his family and wishes he could take it all back.
